Salgaocar Edge past JCT in Last I-League encounter

Salgaocar Sports Club edged past JCT 2-0 in last round I-League match which was played in Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana this afternoon. JCT required much needed win out of this encounter to avoid relegation from I-League. With this motive, JCT started the match proceedings off an offensive note making desperate moves in Salgaocar area for the first ten minutes, thereafter an in-form left winger Francis Fernandes shown some fantastic pace from Salgaocar side and he dribbled past JCT reliable defender Daljit Singh and found the back of the net in 13th minute of the game. After suffering this early debacle JCT made continuous frantic moves in search of equalizer, but all final shots taken by JCT strikers Ajay Singh and Gurtej Singh saved by Salgaocar custodian Karanjit Singh. At half an hour mark, Salgaocar custodian Karanjit Singh came out with a fine save on a well measured shot from Ajay Singh by chipping it over the bar. After lemon break, JCT again move forward in search of equalizer but all its efforts proved to be futile in front of league leaders Salgaocar SC. In 65th minute of the game, JCT again came close to score equalizer through Gurtej Singh whose powerful shot was chipped away by alert Salgaocar custodian. In the 85th minute of the game, Francis Fernandes again came into limelight when he gave well measured pass to his teammate Yakubu from near left flank and Yakubu wasted no time to score by piercing a shot on the JCT post.
